How long can my employer keep me behind for without notice?

Whenever i work until 8 (finish) in my part time retail job, the manager insists we stay and tidy and i dont recall ever being payed for it, what are the laws on working after your shift ends and can you just,, walk out? if it says im down until 8, can i just go? if theres no agreement that i intended to stay behind tidying etc, how long can i be legally expected to stay working for.. ?=]
