If America became a socialist government, how would life change from what we now know?

What are some specific changes we would see and experience were we to have a massive across the board change from capitalism to socialism? anything for the better? What for the worse? Thanks for your help.

Almost everything would be government controlled and regulated. The people would no longer have a voice. Hope it never happens. Socialists are in a fantasy world.

People really think that "Socialism" as we know it today would be some utopia where everyone is equal but it wouldn't be. In reality, it would be a wasteland of people barely able to survive because the people giving all their money to the government in taxes wouldn't be making any more than the people getting welfare... Socialism isn't a form of government. It's a government controlled economy. America could be socialist while maintaining a full democracy with personal rights for all.
