what can i do to get the highest possible sound quality on music recordings?

my band uses a music usb interface going from our mixer to computer . so how can we get the highest quality possible with the interface, music studio program things, settings and all that stuff?

Make sure you have the correct mics for the job and that they're positioned correctly. Also check your sound levels BEFORE you record. If you've recorded the tracks and they've 'clipped' (the horrible cracking/popping noise you might hear) then you can't reverse that, it's a lot easier however to turn the volume of... More

To be fair, the program that you use won't make a large amount of difference, but i guess its advisable to use the most professional such as cubase, logic or protools. That said, if your just recording a stereo feed from the mixer than something as simple as audacity will do the job just fine in terms of quality. Your... More

jz's answer was good, it sounds like your mixer is going to be the work horse here unless you are gonna track it all out on at a time into a sequencer (cubase, PT ect.) which is what i would recomend. And yes of course if you go into the digital realm, do all your processing in 24 bit even if you dither down for a cd... More

there are so many factors that can change the quality of recordings. mics, mic placement, processing, equipment, etc. saying "music studio program things" shows that you have no idea what you're doing and you wont get the best quality out of your recordings. i highly doubt a trained professional would sit down and...
