Can I become a US police officer if I am an immigrant?

I currently live in Holland but am originally from England and I want to become a Police officer in America, specifically Alabama. I am 21 years old, I have graduated high school (secondary school) but do not have any collage degrees. My question is, can I apply as for a police officer job on a work visa or do I have to get a green card the a citizenship before I am able to join? Also how hard is it to get a green card and citizenship so I know what I must do in order to achieve this?

You have to be a legal immigrant. In order to gain citizenship, you have to take a citizenship test. Mostly about US history. You'll have to study. Because it's not exactly easy.

Vincent, if you are white, then becoming a police would be simple. If not, then there is a process that could take years.

Sorry mate you have to get a green card or citizenship to become a government employee. You wouldn't be able to do it illegally. I did research on this aswell because it was what I wanted to do. You should get a student visa and do a course in law or human psychology and that way you will be considered an asset to the... More

Federal jobs generally require that you be a nationalized citizen. In my experience a work visa isn't sufficient due to the training that is... More

It depends on exactly where you want to be a police officer. I would go to the nearest police office (if you are a legal immigrant) and ask them your questions. Don't be shy, I'm sure they will take you seriously.
