Could we eliminate most of the illegal alien problem by eliminating the minimum wage?

The point is if we could pay Americans less they could get those jobs. Oh so we would have to eliminate the benefits that US citizens get before they could compete with the illegals. That is a thought.

Yeah suddenly tons of Americans would be clammering to pick lettuce in 100 degree heat for $4 an hour.

Many illegals make less than minimum, they are akin to slave labor...don't know why others support them being here when the system can abuse them when they are undocumented.

no. The entire resistance to stopping illegal immigration has been found in the democratic party. THAT is the problem. .

No. Illegals are routinely paid below minimum wage.

no, because those that are unlawfully here and hiding from the law, with their 20 roommates will still do physical labor jobs for a fraction of what a legal citizen would consider acceptable

It would affect EVERYONE, not just for illegals. Every s*****g shop owner would be exploiting everyone they could - maybe your kids; would you be cool with that? I sure a s hel* wouldn't. Society would go to hell in a handbasket if this change was enacted.

No, one has nothing to do with the other. We could eliminate illegal aliens by jailing anyone who hires them.

Abolition of min wage is not enogh. We must also eliminate Libby Libbeter equal pay laws, all other pseudo-anti-doscrimination laws, reduce corpoprate profit tax, and so no. But yes. abolotion of min wage would be a good start. Too bad that America-hating Bush gave us three min wage hikes. Lets clean his mess.

No, you need to enforce the laws. the eVerify system should be mandatory in every state. Police should cite those who hire day laborors. The wall should be build.

NO! You would be creating another problem with fare wages NOT being paid out to those of us that were born here legally that want to work!

No. Most illegals work for less, like slavery. Undocumented workers are taken advantage of because employers need cheap labor much like the reason the south wanted to keep slavery, so the Progressives wish to keep a slave class by promoting illegal immigration. God Bless America

No the minimum wage has nothing to do with immigration. The problem is that American companies want to take advantage of undocumented workers by under paying them and not providing them with insurance coverage (workers comp) or any benefits... More

We could eliminate the illegal alien problem--and it is a problem--by having severe, draconian penalties for employers who hire them. If no one will hire them then they'll vote with their feet and leave. May the day be soon in coming... More

To an extent, but I don't think many Americans are going to like going back to those halcyon days of the Gilded Age when they "got" to work 80 hours a week at very, VERY low wages - - which is why the 40 hour workweek, overtime pay and a minimum wage were established in the first place... More

The point is that if we paid more they would take those jobs. What is wrong with the "free market" when it comes to labor. If no one wants to clean toilets, we pay enough make them want the job. No, eliminating the minimum wage would be counter productive. It would just allow business who now employee undocumented... More

Are you saying that the people who hire illegals would hire Americans instead, if they could pay Americans a wage lower than the current minimum?
