Fair invoice received about replacing central A/C compressor/condenser?

I was quote on the phone that the price of the compressor will be 885$ + between 2 and 3 hours of time at 150/hour. For a total between 1300 and 1500$. The real invoice end-up to be on the 08-10-2010, Cambridge, MA: Total 1775$ Breakout: * - 30 rebate * 885 Compressor * 275 R22, 5 lbs * 50 Nitrogen * 50 MC Tank * 64 Braging Rod * 31.50 Vacuum Pump * 450 Repair cost Job Description: Recovered refrigerant, disconnected electrical + umbraged piping, removed old, mounted new into place, bridged piping, re-connected electrical, leak tested with nitrogen, ran vacuum through system, added refrigerant system back on line. Ran tested system with t-stat. Condenser - Goodman - CA36k-15 Work done by Unique Indoor Comfort Beside not respecting the original quote by adding extra part. I'm surprise I'm charge for R22 when the description mention "recovered refrigerant" and "added refrigerant back". Any comment?

Relying on a telephone quote, someone needs their head examined; you're just asking for trouble. If you are thinking about any repair work or replacement work or new installation to be done, you need a licensed and insured dealer/contractor to come to your place and provide you with a "WRITTEN" quote/estimate.

You cannot give a good quote without coming out to the house and seeing exactly what you are getting yourself into. He was probably trying to do you a favor and give you... More
