What is the problem with ""Outsourcing" and Obama?

Asked By: NANDI - 9/13/2010

Dear Friend

Are we Indians not shouting for more reservations, more jobs for locals?

At each State level, are we not demanding some sort of legislation to safe guard jobs for locals?

Are we not familiar with vote catching promises by politicians and assert “sons of the soil’ programs forgetting India is one country?

Regional chauvinism was introduced by the Shiv Sena. Other political parties simply followed suit.

Ever since Balasaheb Thackeray formed the Shiv Sena and asserted the rights of locals over jobs in Mumbai,

Similar parties with similar agendas have been formed in many other states like West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Assam, Orissa, and Kerala. All of them have ‘sons of the soil’ at the centre of their political agenda. Shiv Sena committed violence against the South Indians employed in Mumbai ‘to assert the rights of locals over jobs in Mumbai’. In the South, the political parties, far from perpetrating violence on those from outside their state, wanted the regulatory framework to be fine-tuned to assert the rights of locals over jobs.

When we can not afford to loose our jobs to other state fellow Indians, how can we expect and demand, out sourcing of Jobs to India from US ,at the cost of Americans losing those jobs?

What is wrong in protecting Americans from loosing their jobs either to Indians or to some other country national?

Will you not do the same thing if our Indian jobs are out sourced to other countries?

Edit: Almost 10?f US Citizen are unemployed!!
http://www.forecasts.org/unemploy.htm

When this is the situation, and fore closure of Mortgages are very common nowadays, what do you expect US to do?
Give the jobs to other country nationals?
There was some sort of protest in Mumbai when other state fellow Indians went to write competitive Examination for Railway recruitment ; When this is the state of things in our own country , we Indians expect no Curbs introduced by US against ' out sourcing of Jobs' !!!

Totally double standard !!!

Edit:
Congressman Tim Bishop scored a big win for hard-working American families by preventing more jobs from being shipped overseas.

“Right now, India’s workforce is already processing our mortgage applications, reading our X-rays, preparing our tax returns and conducting our financial research,” Bishop stated during debate. “Before we add food stamp help desks and call centers to that list, we must ask ourselves how much sense it makes to give away the kind of jobs that we could use to put unemployed Americans to work.” “Hundreds of thousands of Americans across the country are out of work and looking to earn an honest living,” Bishop stated. “Now is the time to protect American workers and the services they provide and not a time for taxpayer funded layoffs.”

Don’t you think this is a just action to protect Americans from losing their jobs to India and other countries?

Edit :
Reg MS Believe in extended answer:

1 Whether President Osama’s policies on Health care etc are accepted or not by Americans is none of our concern.

2. Same is with whether he can give Tax cut to AA or not.

3. Where from America imports Jeans etc is also none of our concern.

4. Whatever policies they formulate for that Country, it is their concern only. We need not talk about it even.

5 . Indian IT companies have to find alternate place to do their job instead of entirely depending upon US.

Many countries around the world protect their citizens against job loss; also give incentives to foreign countries to set up manufacturing units in their country so that their citizens are benefited.

Can a foreign company set up a business in West Bengal State or Kerala State? Political parties in those states will see to it they are packed off and sent out.

We had seen how even TATA has to move out his car manufacturing unit away from West Bengal.

Edit:
MS Believe in..sir.. pl correct your first sentence.. there is nothing to be laughed at..
So you want to say that since it is a business matter, you can question other country's policy of protecting their citizens against losing their jobs?
Why you want only US jobs and depend on that country alone. Go to Russia, you will know how hard it is to earn there.
Try to go to any other country, you will realize you are not welcomed.
Even our neighboring countries do not want us.
We had our good time, now we have to find some other avenues for our professionals. They can as they are very intelligent and hard working. They know how to live.

Edit: I stay in US, i see lot of job losses here, including my own relatives .
Outsourcing may be cheaper, but at what cost ? people have to live first.

Obama is a socialist president,so his polices are against the concept of globalization which was initially promoted by USA.
Answered By: Rajyavardhan - 9/14/2010
Obama's popularity rating is taking a beating because of so many factors, one of them being the unemployment problem. He feels that by making outsourcing more expensive the job opportunities for Americans will increase. How far that strategy will help him to improve his poll numbers remains to be seen.
The concern of the Indian call centers may be genuine. And our government may express its angst among other things including taking up the issue of hike in H1B visa fees at the WTO meet. Here is where I fully appreciate and endorse Mr."Pad"s detailed response. We are quick to rise in anger when in the same set of circumstances our whole stand and approach will be exactly the
opposite.
Have a Nice Day.

I like the answer "Let us outsource Obama" I could not stop laughing, I just could not roll on the floor. :)

While I agree with Mr. Pad and Mr. Raj Kish, let me put my answer forward...

Mr. Obama is a politician, who is looking at the the election that are due in less than two months. He is President of a capitalist country and coming up with socialist ideas. This was very much evident from candidate Obama's statements that he had to take back, and then finally when government had to get in to business of running bank, Insurance industry, auto industry, housing industry etc, that people of United States did not approve. Mr. Obama who is smart and intelligent looked at something that is weak point of average middle class Americans that is jobs. And started giving statements against outsourcing. He moved a little step ahead against outsourcing and announced tax cuts against companies that are engaged in outsourcing.

Having said that, let us talk about outsourcing. He would not give tax cut to American Airlines if AA has a call center in Philippines ( that is currently has), what would it do? Additional expense on AA of less than 1?f overall expense. The numbers like 5?r 10?ax cut accounts to less than 1?f profit of a large organization, not more than that. And if AA has to setup the same call center in United states, that would cost then minimum 5-10?f their profit. Any intelligent businessman will forget about the tax cuts.

Next think, the popular Jean brand Levis, moved its manufacturing as a whole from US to China, and now it is manufactured in China and imported in to United States. Though until 2002 it was fully manufactured in United Status. What can Mr. Obama do about it? The parent company US company, but it has another company in China, that does all the manufacturing work and then parent company imports goods into US. Reason is same, cost of manufacturing in China and in United States.

If Mr. Obama continues protectionism like he has announced pre-mid-term elections, companies in United States will move to cheaper locations. It is simple, why did companies from all over world moved to China and after few years many of the them closed down their operations or limited their operations? Reason, because of restrictions. Every businessman is in business for money. Business people are not really concerned about 10?nemployment in the country or 50?nemployment, their lookout is only one, how to e********y. And if it becomes difficult in United Stated because of Mr. Obama's policies then today's market is global market.

Last but not the least, Mr. Obama's policies are not India centric, that is Indian media that is projecting it as India centric. Indian IT companies are getting worried because they are too dependent on United States.

Edit @ Pad Sir:

Let me ask you a simple question, what Mr. Obama decides for his country is none of our concern why are we even talking about that? Full stop if I agree to your edits for me. Let him do what is he doing in United States, is the business of United States why are we talking. Right? What is Mr. Obama to us? What is United States to us?

Pad Sir, that is not true, and that is not right. This is Global Market, and everything is interdependent.

There several companies that have call centers in Bangalore, and any protectionism that US imposes and that impacts India why is that not our concern?

Why is Condalisa Rise issued statement in 2004 that because Indians are consuming more rise and exporting less rise thus rise shortage in world? It is our rise, it is our wish whether we export or not. Why is her problem, and what is world problem?

It is not only Levis that is manufacturing Jean in China, I am sure you will be aware how many companies across the globe manufacture their fabric in Arvind mill in India, and that is just and example. You cannot isolate India from others. And same is true with United States, United States cannot isolate US from the world.

I am sorry, this is Global Market, and every businessman in the market is here to do business and e********y, no one is here is do charity for votes of Mr. Obama or Mr. Singh.

Your example is good, Tata's were not allowed in WB they moved to Gujarat, if they would not have found a place in Gujarat they would moved else where, if they would not found a place in India they would have moved abroad and that is what business policy says, e********y at minimum cost. Why would I do business at the increased cost to earn Votes for Mr. Obama or Mr. Singh and Mr. XYZ.

If Mr. Obama or Mr. Singh wants to create jobs for their citizens, they should create environment for job, that is to reduce cost, by all the means, not by enforcements.

And BTW, BATA, Intel, Cisco, PWC, CTS are few located in Calcutta itself. And in Trivendrum IBM in constructing 450,000 sq ft office at techno park.

Edit again @ Pad sir:

It is everyone's perception while reading a joke, when I read "The Raven" answer, I found it a funny joke and I laughed. I don't see a problem with it, and that is why I gave a thumbs up to it too, if it was my question in Joke and Riddles category, I might have given it "Best Answer" too.

One thing that I am failing to understand is, why is your answer so India centric? And why are you reading my answer keeping India in mind? Why are you thinking that I am talking about India not United States? As I said, today world is world of Global Market, and we don't talk about a peace of it, but any market or Global Market as whole.

Why does United States does not outsource its job to United Kingdom or Germany or France but to Philippines, China or Chile or Ireland or India? It is the same reason why India, China, Philippines want jobs from United States, UK, France, Germany.

There is nothing wrong in protectionism within International laws, but for that Mr. Obama needs to declare that country is not capitalist, and my socialist, and that he cannot afford to do.

Edit @ Pad Sir, I too live in US, and I well understand what cost job losses to US citizens. It is not outsourcing, it is the mistakes made by companies, consumers, and government.

Outsourcing and present job losses have no relation other than the fact to sustain the losses incurred in recession, companies have outsourced jobs to cheaper locations. And that they will continue to do unless US becomes a cheaper location. When US becomes a cheaper location, China, India, Philippines etc will not look at United States for job.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Recently I have overlooked for a project at work and I am unable to accept it why? I am hard working, dedicated, maintain a very professional decorum, very cordial with my colleagues and bosses, give respect to one and all. Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? I am feeling like a complete loser, giving years to this place, building my performance, trust and this is how I get rewarded. Why my life is so shit, anything I wish for turns to dust?

So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!
