How often do computer printers fail complete a print job?

When students fail to submit an assignment in the college classes I teach, they are most likely to attribute their tardiness to printer problems. It seems that for any given assignment, 10% of the students in the course will have problems printing their assignment. The assignments are, apparently, completed, but the students just were unable to print them. Is a 10% printer failure rate the norm, or are my students just the unfortunate victims of bad luck?

I think your students forgot to do the assignment, and are lying to get an extra day. Printers don't fail THAT often, and if they do, you should be printing out early enough to ask a buddy to use his, or go to the library or lab or something.
