How do I handle this situation with my mother?
I am 1 out of 3 children. My entire life I have been the bottom choice for my mother. She has had a prescription drug problem for as long as I can remember and it just gets worse with each passing year. I am 33 now. She raised us sponging off the "system". Lying, cheating and stealing her way through life. She pawned us off on people as much as she could. We had perfect attendance at every bible school in the county...She is never proud of me yet she gets jealous when I succeed at something. When I bought my fist home she didn't speak to me for weeks. When I got married it was even worse. I she has nothing to do with my children and everything she makes about her. She constantly calls me and poor mouth's about how she is hungry and poor but then buys drugs and spends tons of money on facebook games. I don't want my mom to go hungry. She is disabled but gets a check that I feel she could use more wisely. My husband is getting frustrated with me always bailing her out. My kids constantly ask why she never calls them or comes and sees them. She has never baby sat them even once. Everything I give her for a birthday gift or christmas ends up on craigslist within a week. She lives 10 minutes away. I have debated cutting off all contact with her or simply moving away. I don't know how to handle this but things cannot continue the way they are. She keeps me upset and crying all the time and this isn't fair to my family

It is time to cut this woman off. She could potentially destroy your family with her potential toxicity. If she has done nothing for you but give you life then you really owe her nothing. Any person can be a s***m or egg donor... More

Cut her off. The most successful people got away from "toxic" people as soon as they could.

You are right, this situation is not fair to you or your family. Your Mother has a big set of problems. They are not your problems, they are her problems. She needs to get help. You are giving her too much control over you. Stop wanting her approval - she hasn't given it and it doesn't look like she will. Of course... More

Even though you are the child you need to practice a little tough love with your mom. I know you love her, she's your mom but you need to put your family first now. If she is hungry take her food, NO MONEY. You say she is good at working the system. She is also good at working your guilt. I would think she treats... More
