Whts the difference between real federal investigations and TV?

Hi =] I'm a huge fan of Criminal Minds, and I'm hoping to join the FBI or CSIS sometime in the future. Can someone please tell me what the diffenences are between the real job and the show? BTW I am aware that there is no such job a a "Profiler" like on the show. I just want to know if Behavioral Analysists actually get to go on the job and carry guns, and I want know if the job is boring or not. Thanks.

There are "profilers" that work for the FBI. They are Special Agents and are armed. But they generally spend their time in offices, assisting local investigations and testifying in court. They almost never make the actual arrest.
