Does anyone else work for a company that promotes people by making up fake positions?
My company is on another promotion spree. Some hum dingers have been: purchaser promoted to master purchaser (not a real position before btw), executive assistant promoted to executive assistant to the president, marketing consultant promoted to market consulting specialist. I could go on. What position do you want to be promoted to? What is your ideal title?

No, they just make up new positions for the people whose jobs they cut. That way they can pay them less and take away benefits 'legally'. You couldn't pay me enough money to be promoted in this company. I'd chose my job all over again.

Yes...all companies do this. It is evident to us, but not to the people they promote HA HA. My ideal title to be promoted to would be...."Director of Pretty".

No. That's ridiculous! I'm the office manager and really there is nothing else for me to be promoted to. The only other person who works in the office is the CEO/president/engineer/product designer/owner.

Yes I do but, with my last one I did not get a salary increase... Hmm I am a software analyst and lead trainer, promoted to software analyst and webinar training manager. I would like to be CEO... (you asked)

My ideal job title would be "Porn Director" regarding the non-existant promotions this is the oldest scam in the book, it is a way to not give out raises...

that's brilliant. costs nothing, makes the employee happy. my mom tried to retire and the school where she worked made up a new position for her to keep her on. maybe i could get promoted to "dad" ... his kid jobs seem mostly to involve playing wii. ;-)

Companies are not static. They "make up" positions all the time to encompass changing needs. Perhaps the Purchaser is now in charge of more accounts. The EA to the pres now has a more specific title and duties leaving other to do some of the everyday stuff to other EA's... More

My company comes up with all sorts of things also.

Titles don't mean anything to me. I had my cards made up to say my title is "Office Witch" but starting with B. I mean, technically, I'm the Office Manager, but really, I don't manage anyone, and it's a small company, so I'll never have support staff.
