Who else thought WWE did a poor job of writing Shane McMahon off of TV?

If you recall, last year he and Randy Orton had a match that ended in Orton "breaking" Shane's ankle with the steel steps and a steel chair. Shane McMahon was brought out in a stretcher and he hasn't been on TV since, and probably won't ever appear on TV. Do you think they should've done something bigger than that to write him off of TV? And if so, how should they have done it?
