Any afforable + good vets in NYC or Staten Island? My dog is sick..?

I half raised him :( He is a boxer mix. My brother primarily owns him and he and his wife moved to Staten Island, NY after they got married a few months ago with Butch(the boxer mix) and her dog. They are new to the area so they don't know any good vets. If he were back here in FL I would know exactly where to take him as would my brother. Affordable good place with a great and caring vet. Yesterday apparently Butch ate something from the ground and when my brother turned around to try to stop him it was too late. So today he threw up in yellow and had diahrrea that was apparently as my brother described it "tar-like" and sticky. He is also been lethargic today and he's just not that kind of dog. I would love for someone here to give me an idea on what it is but I know that is not possible. I love this dog. I've lived 6 years with him since he was a puppy and he recently turned 7. My brother and his wife threw a doggy birthday party for him and everything :( Please.. anyone in NYC or near that please if you know a good affordable place, let me know! And please save any "you get what you pay for" remarks. That's not true everywhere. Right now, this dog's health is at risk and is the most important thing :( Thank you Itoya... that helped a lot already. And it's not weird about your pittie :) Butch is also half pittie.. I just didn't mention it because last time I asked a question about one of my babies that is also half pit, people seemed to forget my initial question and told me to just put her down >:( Anyway, thanks ^_^ That site looks promising already :) I have 2 pit mixes with me btw, in FL and they are scared of my chihuahua... so I believe you, totally do :) Thank you both of you ^_^

Honestly I live in NYC and I constantly wonder the same thing. Especially after my Yorkie Mix and Pit Bull was wrestling and the little one's tooth tore the cornea off of the Pittie(I know sounds weird but the pittie is very submissive). What I did was I applied for care credit to help pay the 5,000 dollars worth of... More

I don't live in NYC and prices range everywhere. They should be calling around to vets in their area and shelters to see if they will treat the dog. Most shelters will some vet care so I'd call everywhere. And if not they'd probably know where they could take him to get help.
