What gauge speaker wire should i buy?

I need some speakers wire for 100 watts satellite speakers that are 8 ohm if that helps. I had some 22 gauge wire but it melted with my old 100 watt receiver now i have all new equipment. Im thinking 18 or 16 gauge should do the job? thanks in advanced +10 for best! ok 14 it is! thanks!

The larger the wire (within reason) the lower the voltage drop and more current from the output to the speaker. It might not be very much between 18 to 16 and 14 gauge wire At least go with 16 gauge, but I would go to 14 gauge if possible. All copper strained wire for best performance. Here are two tools ... one has a calculator (max 30 ft of wire), and the other lots of text and a table showing maximum length for various wire sizes and speaker impedance. Use 16 gauge wire, you should have no problems on a 100 watts system. Hope this will help you out.
