Just go into any branch and tell them you wish to open a checking account. They'll sit you down with a representative and he/she will explain the different types of checking accounts they offer. Just go in to your local bank and talk to one of the nice people sitting there at the desks. That's what they're there for -- to help people open accounts. Bring an ID and whatever amount of money you want to deposit to open your account.

Take your driver license and Social Security card to the bank of your choice and tell them "I want to open a new account."

1. Go to bank. 2. Ask to open an account. Hardly rocket science

Find a bank that offers a free account with direct deposit (I know that bank of america has one) and open a checking account there. Since you're 19, you don't need your mom with you to open it. Take 2 forms of ID with you to open the account. It will probably take around 45 minutes.
