Reasons to use Linux?

I have ubuntu installed on my desktop and I love it but I can't really find a reason to use it instead of windows 7. I'm saying that because hardly anything is made for Linux and hardly anything runs on Linux. I'm more than likely wrong about that last statement. Can someone tell me a few reasons people use Linux and Linux only. And don't tell me something like "because it can't get viruses", because guess what if you're not an idiot you won't get them in windows 7 either. I'm not trying to find an excuse to use it because I really don't care, but I want to know why people use it.
