What type of engineering has the most potential to improve the environment?

I'm looking into some type of engineering as my major in college, but I'm not sure what would best fit my intended career path. It would be awesome to have a job where I could help create things that help the earth be a cleaner, healthier, safer place to live. What kind of major would help me best accomplish this goal? I know environmental engineering is more literal in the sense of 'cleaning up the earth', but I feel like civil engineering might better suit my situation. Does anyone have any ideas?
