What do you think about Conspiracy theories?

Okay well, let me first start off by saying that I do not really believe in any conspiracy theories, ie: 9/11 was an inside jobs, certain organizations wanting to take over the world (ie: the builderberg, the mason society, ETC), global warming is a hoax, moon landing was faked, poisoning our food, RFID tages, mind controll ETC. So I guess what brought me to ask these questions was that my professor at ASU started saying that he idolized Glen Beck and that he wanted us -the class- to get "the facts" he honestly sounded insane. Now that is not to say that all of the afore mentioned theories and more are impossible; anything is possible, but it did make me wonder what other people think about conspiracy theories. On a final note I met a person who thought that most, if not all, the theories were fact. Naturally I laughed and wondered if he kept an aluminum hat in his backpack. I asked him that if he thought all of these were true wouldn't at least one, if not more, come to fruition? Like the world take over, poisoning of our food, ect. So what do you think about these and more? Do you believe them? What do you think about them if you don't?

A couple of things: Human beings are story-telling animals. We tend to think in narratives and we develop stories to explain the world to ourselves; many of us have difficulty with ambiguity and work hard to fit what happens into our narratives. It can be easier to form all kinds of things into a conspiracy than to... More
