What are the opportunities and practices of chemical engineering consulting?

I am an engineering student who's degree exposes him to many different types of engineering (integrated engineering), but I am specializing in chemical engineering. Due to this broad background, I was possibly thinking of going into consulting in a chemical engineering context. However I know very little about the typical jobs, opportunities, and aspects of this type of work. Could someone give me a bit of insight and detail into this? i.e. demand, nature of job (nomadic, long hours), project management, "businessy-ness" of job, typical employer size, possible countries to work in (international firms)? typical industries of consultation? Main challenges of job? salary, Competitiveness, requirements.... etc
