How old do you have to be to become a Paramedic or EMT?

Hi everyone. I am seventeen years old and will be eighteen next October. I am interested in taking classes this summer to become a paramedic, but I am concerned that I am too young. Emily is right. My daughter who works part time as an EMT while she gets her PhD tells me that most states allow you to train at 17 but you need to be 18 to take the test. And as part of the internship, you have to be able to run up a flight of stairs carrying a 70 pound case.
