How can my wife see a doctor for SSI Disability with no money?

We can't afford to pay for a doctor visit but I make too much money at my job for assistance. She has chronic pain due to herniated discs in her back. She can't work and we are getting no assistance. I live in LA and I pay for our car, food (barely), gas, electric, insurance and there's nothing left. I don't know what to do we can barely make ends meet as it is.

Your wife can go to the SSA office and apply for SSDI and the SSA will send your wife to one of their SSA doctors for a free SSA physical evaluation but the will NOT treat your wife.

Do not feel that you cannot apply if you do not have the medical history. Yes, good records are the best help, but not the only records needed. You might try filling your taxes separately instead of as a married couple. If your wife filled her individual taxes without your income she might qualify for medicade.

with a herniated disk she needs to get attention and if SSDI is your only way you could be waiting years for any help. the Dr.s the SS sends you to before being excepted are not going to treat her they are going to evaluate her. and sometimes these appointments take months to get. I would say sell your car, cancel your... More
