Whats the difference between brake rotors, pads and caliper?

Also, can brake rotors and brake pads be two different brands? And how do I know which is a good price and which is too high or too low? Autozone has some that are $54, $35, and even $21 or $19, does cheap mean worse in brakes? I am planning on changing my own brakes. Please give me some advice.

The brake pads sit inside the calipers and the calipers sits around the brake rotor. Get a book and have a person with experience help... More

From your questions, I'm afraid that you will need quite a bit of constructive help if you intend to do the brake job yourself. As a starter, get yourself a repair manual (Chilton or Haynes) available in any auto parts store and familiarize yourself with the brake system parts and procedure.
