What is a good way to learn computer programming?

So far i'm starting out completing tutorials on but i'm not sure if this is really teaching me the programs to their full extent. What should my goals be? I just want to get adversed enough to be able to land a good computer job on my university campus. Also I do not understand what programs are used for what situations. Anything will help, but the more thorough the better. I would like to know some about web design, but primarily how to program because there seems to be a greater room for improvement and money making.

If you want to do Xbox, you might consider XNA. If you want to do client standalone apps... More
