How do I find a waiter job?

I'm trying to find a waiter job and I don't know where to start. I walk into a restaurant that is or isn't looking for applicants, then what do I say to whom?

You ask for the manager and say you want to apply for a job. The manager will accept your application or will tell you to give it to someone out front who is collecting them.
