what is your opinion about the so called death panels?

my understanding is ... when a person becomes ill (THE PAPERWORK NEEDS TO BE DONE BEFORE ILLNESS STRIKES...)to the point that to continue treatment to keep them alive at all costs is a bit over the top... they should be encouraged to opt out for palliative care only and or hospice... WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL AND REALLY WHAT IS THE REASON FOR LEGISLATION FOR THIS. It has been available for a long time... to obtain the paperwork for an advanced directive, and health care proxy. It is not a big deal it is certainly not something that needs a medical consultation... it is just common sense. If you want everything done to keep your body alive when you are terminally ill and not functional but bedridden, cant eat... whatever, you really need to think about your quality of life and the stress you are putting on your family... Facing the facts of life are necessary. If I can not eat normally then i dont want a feeding tube,... I do not want IVs to keep me hydrated either... if there is little to no chance for me to live a somewhat normal life then my choice is to be kept comfortable... pain medication only... let me go. The social services department of a hospital should deal with the paperwork which is really no big deal though I would like to see a document that would be accepted in every state rather than having to obtain one for each state you may reside in... simplify things, face facts and make your choices NOW before you are in a crisis situation. bgee2001 there are death panels... check the news pal... and the dems dont want the info publicized...

Death panels were just another scare tactic of bozos like Beck and O'Reilly. Before Health Care Reform passed, the insurance companies ran their own backroom death panels.
