How long will it take to hear back from a job application?

I sent an email application for a job last sunday. When do you think I'll hear back from them? Also when should I take the initiative to call or email them as a follow up? Thanks!

Depends on how quickly they need to fill the position. I applied for an FCIP in October, tested in November, finally heard something from a hiring official in February and EODed in April. So don't quit your day job.

From my own experience you may not get a reply. Some positions get a lot of applicants and the company cant be expected to reply to everyone. If there is a closing date for applications I would get in touch with the company a few days after the closing date. If not i would wait maybe a week. Personally I would call... More

With so many out of work it could take 4-6 weeks. Right now thousands of people are applying for the same job
