Can anyone help me out with info about strapping tools?

I looked into strapping tools a little bit, but I honestly have no idea what I'm looking at. I am referring to the tool that tightens and fastens plastic straps around things like bundles of newspapers, or that TireRack uses to attach pairs of tires for shipping. They seem to range from $30 to over $2000, what's the difference? A lot of what I've seen have metal or plastic buckles to secure the straps together. What I have seen on newspapers and tires seems to either be sealed with heat, or some sort of adhesive. I am just looking for a light duty/occasional use tool that will allow me to bundle things together the same way TireRack does. Thanks for any information.

For occasionally securing a bundle of whatever, I'd suggest using twine or wire.

You need the plastic strapping in a small amount, a ratchet gizmo that tightens the straps, those metal clips, and clamps, plus a crimping tool, Check this site out, they have it all, and you can probably find it at your local home center as well...
