What is an effective way to teach your preschooler how to count and indentify numbers?

My almost 5 year old son has a very very short attention span so the window of opportunity I do have with him I want it to count (no pun intended!) :) What are some ways to teach your preschooler or kindergartner aged child how to identify numbers and such? I thought I'd also add that we home school. Do wine coolers count, Z? :) I will say this, that watching Sesame Street has been a big help.

Each child is different ---... More

If your son is a visual learner, you could put up posters with numbers in an area in your house where he frequents. Posters and a lot of other visual aids helped my daughter learn the alphabet and numbers too. They are effective because she would just look at the wall when she wants to and she also became more... Hopscotch helped my 5 year old a lot. One day she was playing at preschool and the hopscotch mat got all jumbled up. It comes apart and goes together like a puzzle. That little stinker (she was 3 or 4 at the time) jumped on the mat and called out each number as she hopped, even though they were mixed up! So anyway... More
