how can i explain my wanted career choice?

im 18 and married still in high school with a baby on the way next fall. i want a job that i love doing and pays well to help suport my new family. ive been thinking alot about being a nurse i already have the sciences done i got 70's and 80's in them. im a lifegaurd/first aid instructor and i love that teaching about medical stuff and helping people. i told him that i was applying to collage to be a nurse (part time collage) and he flipped out saying i couldnt do it and how it'll mess up our family. i understand what hes saying but hes got it wrong and doesnt want to listen. he thinks i will be working 12 hour days and shift work, being on call all the time and always at work away from him and the baby, but thats at a hospital....i want to work days at long term clinic, hospice, or home visiting nurse. i have been working for the city i live in for 4 years and have that senority by the time i graduate ill have more and can get days most likey anyhow. ive been looking at job listings and theres alot of nurse jobs for 20 hours a week part time and it still pays $30/hour with some benifits for my family. alot of visiting nurses get paid per visit/job. he works for himself and does really well at it but i still think we could use family benifits that another thing i really like about nursing the union benifits. how can i get him to at least listen to what i have to say? am i being crazy for wanting to be a nurse? i want to do the best for my new family but i want to enjoy it too, and dont want to be in school for long nursing isnt that long and pays well with benifits thats all i want. i emailed him a few job listings for part time work, and visiting pay per visit, and emailed him telling him about my senority...hopefully he will read it and think about it but he really thinks ill be giving up my family and life and doesnt want it, but its possible my anuts a nurse for the past 26 years has 3 kids and still married shes doing very well she has 3 houses and a resterant. why you need 3 houses idk :P i already applied and got accepted for sept 2011 i just got my letter

Before you start arguing over a maybe why not check what your chances are of getting into nursing school Other students have mentioned 20 openings and 1000 students applying. Your grades might not be good enough.
