What do soldiers actually do in the army when not fighting?

Apart from march and do assault courses.

Train whether it be combat scenario, medical training, safety training for new equipment. It all depends on your job and specialty. I certainly wonder this myself. When I asked a soldier, he said they wait for the CO to leave the office and then dozens of soldiers go to the gym or out to do errands--several hours, every day, but dozens of soldiers. WASTED TAXPAYER MONEY

We either train or fix equipment. If we are off then oh well its not a waste of tax payer money as that ignorant sob claims. Ive spent 2 of my my 6 yrs in the military deployed. Train the various tasks they have to remain proficient in, catch up on the administrative work that went into the "later" pile when they deployed, fix the equipment that needs fixing, train, catch up on all of those mandated additional duties that piled up while they were gone, train some more, say goodbye to those who...
