Im curerently unemployed and have been looking for work for the past 6 months.?

I am getting up to my neck in debt seeing as I am only entitled to receive £262 pm (job seekers) yes, my council tax is being paid but I have a mortgage of £520 pm and so have had to pay for a few months until they sort out a claim for them to pay my interest only. It don't take a genius to realise £262 don't cover my bills and food alone, let alone any part of my mortgage. I have always worked and paid 40% tax for as long as I can remember and yet that fact that I have put into the state for 22years doesn't go in my favour. I would have been better off NOT earning a good salary (spending it back in the economy) and in turn NOT buy a property and just let the state compensate me in the shape of a council property. How do these people you see, earn a good living off of Benefits, and yet im in debt just by living a basic living. I don't smoke and so cant cut down there, I would love the odd drink but so cant afford to and so dont. Can i get any help as Im a now few thousand in debt now just by living a simple life and no way luxury lifestyle?
