Can alleghany power cut off electric in winter in md?

I've heard that during the winter months in the state of maryland, the electric company can't cut your electric off. I'm only asking because I'm late on my bill already and were in the process of a job transfer so my home won't have any income for another two weeks and I have three children under age 4

There was never any law. Rather, it was simply the internal company policy of many major electricity providers that serve Maryland. They did it to be nice, more or less, and keep their customers. I don't know about MD, but in NC they can cut your power or gas at any time. Call your providers and find out. Also call your county and see if you qualify for winter energy assistance. Last year, my son and I spent 3 weeks without heat because refilling my propane tank cost $300 dollars that we did not have.
