What is the industry standard for games?

I am planning on making a game and I want to do it with the least most help as possible, no game maker or rpg maker..... I am learning c++ but if I were to make it like the pro's do they make there own API if so how do they do it, or do they use OpenGL or SDL. I just really want to know what they use for there graphics API.

Most will integrate OpenGL, Direct2D, or Direct3D. Most games use DirectX library file(s), they are great to get started with and you can do extreme coding with them, but you're correct. You will need to implement your own API of some sort.
