Why are there no tariffs on the cheap, imported junk made in China?

because we don't have enough manufacturing capacity in america right now to sustain our economy without the cheap, imported junk you find in places like wal-mart, target, shopko, costco, rite-aid... pretty much EVERY SINGLE RETAILER in the country depends on that crap. without it, capitalism is dead... Good question. There should be tariffs which make it economically unwise to produce goods sold here, overseas.

Because Americans don't want to pay $10 a pair for tube socks. We are actually selling bunches of American cars in China now. Do you really want them to raise their tariffs just to get back at us for raising ours?
