Do you think that the Republicans will block the High Speed Rail Project, or will they get on board with this?
I am really excited about this project, because it will create jobs in the Steel Industry, Plastics Industry, as well as Construction. Not to mention all of the local restaurants and other businesses that will benefit from this project taking place all over the country. I hope congress will get on board with this, no pun intended.

my problem is it will only benefit a few both in jobs and in use. Is it going to go through every town in the US? If not then why should we all pay for it.

Republicans don't want people to work because jobless people vote for change (ie, new President), which means a vested interest in getting any new projects cut.

I was REALLY looking forward to flying cars in 2010 - but high speed rail sounds exciting. I wonder if people went bananas when highways, canals and railroad systems were being built too or if its just a modern day conservative doofus move?

I sure hope not. We can't afford it.

They should block this project..it is yet another huge waste of taxpayer money.
Answered By: Romac - 2/10/2011
It's possible but I think the Republicans would prefer indications the project would be economically sound and is not just the wasting of $53 Billion for the S&G's of it (or just to say "See, we also have a High Speed Rail!"). Considering only 2 routes in the world ARE (when factoring capitalized costs), Dem's better... More

Why would anyone outside the NY/NJ area support a 53 billion dollar pork project. You libtards do know that it will only connect 2 states, you did know that right. Now fiqure the cost to spread it across the usa, and then think about the perpetual federal handouts to keep it going.

Why would anyone think Republicans would change their staus quo, obstructionist policy of the past 3 years, now?
Answered By: Will - 2/10/2011
You forgot to include that it will be just as successful as AmTrak, Conrail, The US Postal Service and on and on and on. If it is such a wonderful idea why aren't ant private companies wanting to do it instead of robbing more money from the taxpayers?
