how do you become an elementary school teacher?

specifically I would like to become a kindergarten teacher. what degree should I try to obtain and do you know of any colleges within southern california that offer these degrees? I am interested in teaching but I am not sure where I should go and what I am even supposed to study to make this possible. Also, what does this job involve? any feedback from elementary school teachers? like it, dislike it?
