How do older people who have no Job References get a job ?

What If you are older and have no job references, you have been a housewife for many years and out of the job market, and have no working skills. What kind of references should you give ? If you were employed 10 years ago, the employer from back than might not want to give you any reference since it's been so long . If you get job training such as Certified Nurse assistant training would the training itself get you the job, or would you still need other job references ?
