How would I become an Insurance Underwriter?
I am looking to advance in my current job & would like to know if there are any schools in Oklahoma City I could attend to become an underwriter? Thanks!!!

Although there are no formal education requirements for becoming an underwriter, employers prefer candidates who have either a bachelor's degree or insurance-related experience and strong computer skills. Most insurance companies hire people with bachelor's degrees in business related fields, to be underwriters. Some will take people with a bachelor's degree in a DIFFERENT field, and insurance experience.

Some schools offer courses (and even degrees) in risk management. This would be an ideal education for an underwriter. Outside of that, look for finance or general business degrees. Call some local insurance companies and ask to speak with someone in human resources. They will likely give you a five minute crash course... More
