Transitioning from Military to Civilian?

I am currently a Junior in High school. I have a GPA of 3.0, and I also take a couple of AP/Honors Classes. Next year I will not be taking AP/Honors classes, but instead I will be doing a Mentor Program, where I go and shadow someone with a career that I would like to pursue in the future. My Plan: After High School, I will be joining the Marine Corps and hopefully I will be working in the 03 Infantry field or MP and have a secondary MOS as a Security Forces Guard. In the Marine Corps, I will serve my initial 4 years and extend my contract to serve a couple more years as well. After the Marine Corps, I will try to land a job as a Security contractor for Triple Canopy Inc. or Xe. Otherwise, I will go to college and get a degree in Criminal Justice and try to become a SWAT Officer or DEA. (If the positions are all filled up in the Marine Corps, I will be joining the US Army as a 101st Airborne, and go for MP K9 Unit.) My question is, Is the transition from Military to Civilian hard? Do I have a good chance of going into college after service? How do you transition from Military to Civilian successfully and smoothly?

I went back to school, got a couple more degrees, and started a second career managing military... More
