Motor sports are a drop in the ocean. The people of St. Louis, MO. alone collectively drive 72,000,000 miles every day! If they all average 25 miles per gallon that would come to 2,880,000 gallons of gasoline burned every DAY!
Nascar, for example, has 43 cars in every race and a 36 race season. Based on every race being 500 miles(there not) at 5 miles per gallon, that's 154,800 gallons of gasoline burned every year!
Therefore, St. Louis uses enough gas every day to fuel 18.6 years/seasons of Nascar. Or, 130.2 years of Nascar every week! Now, add up the amount of gas the entire world uses every day!
edit: I need to add that Nascar has the largest tree planting program than any other professional sports organization. The track in Pocono Pennsylvania has a solar farm and is 100?olar powered! Many of the press boxes and private condo boxes at some tracks are also solar powered.
Nascar team owner and Ford guru Jack Roush of Roush/Fenway Racing, has there race shop powered 100?y solar energy and he started a company to build large scale solar products.
Here's the "Instrument Panel" to there race shop.--->
