What do I say to the secretary at a law firm when handing in a resume?

I am in dire need of a paralegal job and want to be more proactive in distributing my resume. Is it OK to walk into law firms and hand in a resume even if they aren't seeking entry-level paralegals? Or is it rude? What do I say when I hand it to the secretary? "I know your not hiring, but here is my resume?"

Be simple and to-the-point. Offer your resume, mention that you're seeking a paralegal position, and ask them to kindly keep it on file in the event that there's an opening. Don't bring gifts, etc. as this comes across as unprofessional.
