Why Pray to God about a need if He won't anwer?

I am so confused. I have been a christian since 7 years old. I have read my Bible and I've read a couple of times that it says to pray about everything, or you have not because you ask not, or He'll give you the desires of your heart, etc. Im confused because every time i've prayed 9 times out of 10 my prayers have gone unanswered. I prayed diligently that my boyfriend gets a full time job so that we can get married. I gave that situation to God. He didn't get it. I prayed to God to change my own working situation so that can get back into church again (that seems like a will of God type prayer) but no. i always talk to Him but He never talks back. so praying begins to get a little tedious communicating with someone who wont converse back. This situation has been for years. So it makes it difficult for me to pray when 9 times out of 10 He won't respond or He won't answer. I desire to have a deep intimate relationship with God but experiencing these (I hate to say it) Let downs have kind of discouraged me from talking to Him at all. I pray once in awhile or a forced prayer because I know He's not going to respond. I don't have selfish prayers, or at least I don't think so. How can I know what God's will is if He doesn't speak to me or speak to someone for me?? This walk can be very FRUSTRATING!!! Please only real christians who love God respond to this. No atheists, or unbelievers. Bring it on I need the help :)
Thank you to everyone who had something positive to add to my problem. it was very encouraging, or at least most were. To the atheist and non believers I did not want your answers because they are irrelevant to me. I am still a christian, i still believe in God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit and nothing that you say can change that. That's why I don't your perspective.

Prayer Does Not Work

===============================================

Several studies of prayer effectiveness have yielded null results.[4] A 2001 double-blind study of the Mayo Clinic found no significant difference in the recovery rates between people who were (unbeknownst to them) assigned to a group that prayed for them and those who were not.[72] Similarly, the MANTRA study conducted by Duke University found no differences in outcome of cardiac procedures as a result of prayer.[73] In another similar study published in the American Heart Journal in 2006,[74] Christian intercessory prayer when reading a scripted prayer was found to have no effect on the recovery of heart surgery patients; however, the study found patients who had knowledge of receiving prayer had slightly higher instances of complications than those who did not know if they were being prayed for or those who did not receive prayer.[5][75] Another 2006 study suggested that prayer actually had a significant negative effect on the recovery of cardiac bypass patients, resulting in more frequent deaths and slower recovery time for those patient who received prayers.[76]

According to a study by Centra State Hospital, "the psychological benefits of Other practices such as yoga, tai chi, and meditation may help reduce stress and anxiety, promote a more positive outlook, and strengthen the will to live."[77] where as just prayer alone has had no effect.

If you are expecting a verbal reply, you will be waiting a long time. It does happen, but is low on the conversation scale. God prefers to use other people to answer your prayers. That gives you a hint on what he answers. And also it might take YEARS to answer your prayers because they are not in the matter you expect but in the best way for you. Some are not answered to protect you from yourself, others because it would not be good you you, some the answer is no. Give these some thought.

God is there for you, and He always will be! We aren't always going to just be able to hear Him speaking, He speaks through other people, our family, our friends. I have been let down and disappointed so many times in my life, and I'm only 16. I don't have the answer book to all of life's problems, I don't know what God has planned for my life, wish I did, but then life would be so...boring, would it not? Look up Jeremiah 29:11 its my life verse and it really gets me through tough times. I will be praying for you even though I have no idea who you are, what your situation really is, but I will. Good luck with everything.

They call the Bible His Word, because that is how God speaks to us. If you are waiting for audible proof, remember what Scripture says about the just living by faith, not by sight. I thinks it's safe to assume we aren't supposed to live by audible detection either. If you read the Bible and meditate on God's words, the Holy Spirit brings thoughts to light. You also should be involved in a community of believers if you aren't. A hot coal cools and dies out if it is separated from the other coals.

Well Dionne, First of all you are on the right track. I am a catholic, and I completely understand what you feel like. Sometimes in a christian's life there are time where you feel completely alone, and God is somewhere else. Last summer I kept on praying that I would make a basketball team, and I got rejected by 6 teams. The last tryout I had I made it and I was so happy I kept praying. The point is God is always with you whether you feel it or not. God always answers you, but sometimes it isn't the answer you would like to hear. Maybe your boyfriend isn't meant to work at the place he's working at, or maybe God has a better job for him down the road. Maybe he is not meant to get the full time job yet, but later down the road it will come when you need it most. As for your working situation, Maybe God hasn't answered you yet because it isn't the right time. He will answer you in due time, but don't be upset if it isn't the answer you want. God is with you and I will pray for your sitation also. Stay close to God all your life, and God Bless you and your boyfriend. Hope this helps, E-Kool
Answered By: E-Kool - 4/15/2011
Ask the Lord's will and learn to pray for his will to be done. What if God didn't think your bf was the right one for you, but maybe he's rather not tell you just now. Pray like this, Dear Lord, if it would seem good to you, bring my boy friend to the right job and show us your plan for our lives that we may glorify you.

If you leave God out of your plans, he might not answer you and if you don't repent of anything that is wrong in your heart, that blocks prayer too. Ps. 66:18

My husband retired from his job of 30 years to move to a new small town. We were building a new home there and we were certain that he would find a new job right away. It didn't happen. We were down to $1,000.00 in our savings account. We did have other money but, that needed to be saved for our retirement years. We prayed and prayed but, nothing. Then we prayed believing and trusting Him and guess what? He gave my husband a new job that paid almost three times the amount we had expected for that type of work.

Sometimes God wants us to wait until He sets up the circumstances and people that will come into our lives that will make our prayers happen.

I have come to really enjoy watching Him answer prayers and work out situations in my life.

P.S. When a Spirit filled Christian gives you advise, you can be certain that it is God speaking to you.

There is no god.

There is no proof of a god.

There is proof...that prayers do not work.

People who are prayed for to get well...don't.

Belief in god, Jesus, prayers, and religions are the same as believing in magic, where a magician can wave a magic wand over a top hat and magically a white rabbit jumps out. This is magic. Magic does not exist.

When prayer does not give you want you want...Christians then lie and state that you are not good enough, you didn't pray the right prayers, or the right way, god will answer when he wants to, or you are being punished for something.

These are flat lies by the religious to cover up the fact that prayer, and belief in god, Jesus and other magical stuff does not work. There is no god, and there is no magic.

When you want something...become educated, do your research, figure out how you can get it for it yourself.

The more you become an educated "thinker" the more you get what you want.

It is a flat stupid lie that prayer to a god, or Jesus....will give you stuff that you didn't earn or work for.

All religions are a belief in magic....and intelligent people know that "magic does not exist." What religion does is hypnotize people into believing in the impossible and the irrational...and when the impossible and the irrational does not happen, the religious then blame you that you "didn't do it right." This is poppycock.

Think....don't pray.

What fun would life be if every single one of your prayers were answered? you would start taking things for granted and lose any motivation. that's like playing a game with all the cheats on, it gets old quick. Personally i believe in a higher power, or a more intelligent being, but i don't believe in the yahweh god portrayed by the bible. to pray for something and then say 'oh god's got no prob' is silly! you have to put in all the effort you possibly can for it to happen. you can't let the world pass you by. you have to go out and get what you want. looking for connections to your prayer makes you believe something is happening, but you shouldn't look at the situation like you're in the back seat waiting for your stop. you're the one steering your life, not god. life is full of challenges, it tests who we're made of. just because this test is hard doesn't mean god is obligated to help us. if you want a typical answer to your question we can just say 'god works in mysterious ways' or that he's omnipotent and knows what he's doing by not answering. but seriously don't strain yourself. you are no better than anyone else on this planet, so why should you get special treatment? we are a collective body, we're treated as one. prayer is wishful thinking. planning is easy, talk is cheap, execution is the hard part. so work on execution and the only thing you'll have to say when you pray is 'thank you'

cheers!
Answered By: Brian Zooga - 4/15/2011
God always answers. Sometimes He says no. He can't help it if that's not the answer you expect or demand. Sometimes He says wait; watch; this is a test (not for His benefit, but for yours because He already knows the outcome); not now; not in that way, or, will you pray in My will instead of always expecting yours, please?

It's normal to pray in our will. That's why Jesus taught prayer to be consciously offered as the Father's will. Reminds us who is in charge. Not us.
Answered By: c. - 4/15/2011
God does not solve our problems. Nor does He triumph over our challenges. I think a question worth asking is: Why would he give them to us in the first place?

From a Christian point of view, everything we're handed in life is an opportunity to grow closer to God. Even the worst things you can imagine are still opportunities. He wants you to try as hard as you can to grow, while still praying diligently--not necessarily for His hand to work miracles for you, but for the 'voice' of the Holy Spirit to guide you on your path, or to give you the comforting assurance that you're on the right path.

It's important to remember that He's always there, loving you and hoping you'll grow closer to him.

If you want to know the path, there's actually a manual you can read that will tell you exactly what to do. Here's an excerpt from that manual pertaining to your issue:

James 2:18 "Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works."

God wants you to work to triumph over your challenges. If you don't agree, why don't you ask him?
Answered By: Cam - 4/15/2011
Why do you attempt to ward off the answers of the non-believers? Are you acknowledging their power?

I think in an honest world we should be able to look at all the possible answers, don't you? Would you really rather hear what you want to hear instead of having a look at the whole situation?

This atheist would state the obvious in answer to your question. There is an easy answer to your dilemma which makes sense of the whole issue in a heartbeat, but I don't think you want to hear it.

It's, like, our job to give Bible quotes. If this bothers you, then why do you come on this particular section? You're a glutton for punishment and that's not our fault. We can't help you if you love to put yourself in misery. We have every right to give Bible quotes. It's how we Christians learn from each other.

So today I went in for an interview and I was going in for the 2nd interview by the head chief executive. now this is where it got weird, so she asked me about my previous jobs and said how much she liked that product over that product. then she started talking about her daughter? an her divorce ...then how she didn't finish college because she was making more money doing what she did for this company ... then she talked about how her teenage daughter is a handful... I just played it cool thinking she was using some sort of psychology thing to trick me into saying something stupid. the interview ended and she seemed happy an I was escorted to the door... now I'm freaking confused? is this normal behavior for an executive? like it felt like she was going to burst into tears at one point and tell me her life problems... is this normal? was she trying to see how I react or something?

Basically- no degree, although I have tried completing one in the past and stopped because of physical and mental health issues which were overwhelming to deal with along with going to classes full time. I'm not stupid and I am quite articulate. I am 23 and have only worked for about two years retail in high school and stopped working to go to university. I worked a few months in 2010 retail after I dropped out but it was only a seasonal position, and the only reason why I have not been able to constantly work is because of mental health issues. I had also tried going back to community college during my free time since i left university in 2008/9 and I had panic attacks while in community college, which made my anxiety worse from then on. Well recently I met a good doctor and he prescribed me some meds that are stabilizing my moods and I feel the best I've felt in years, and I'm ready to work. Thing is, I don't know how to get a job now since I've spent literally years being depressed and anxious doing nothing. I don't really have anything to put on my resume, and I never finished my AA degree either. All I've done is cashiering and although I do the job well and I get promoted easily when I do these jobs because I'm a hard worker and I try to go above and beyond what they ask of me,which is the attitude I have no matter what kind of work I'm doing as long as I'm getting paid. But I hate cashiering because it's too easy and I want a job that is more interesting. Any suggestions for me on how to get a job that is NOT Retail with the type of background I have right now? I also realize I have to go to college to get certain types of jobs, I am talking about what I can do right here right now.

Still people who take the p***, argue with managers, gossip mongers have been selected for some very responsible positions at work. I seriously can't get my head around it why, why unprofessional people who have no work ethics being selected over me, whereas I have a track record of excellent performance and never shy away from any work my manager ask me to do? I am at my lowest point and not getting hold of my manager to ask the question why not me, why them who can't even bother? So I have a nice white button up shirt, business skirt and pants, and a suit jacket. I'm applying for a software development job and I'm very short and can look young so I'm trying to look adult, yet professional. I'm also attractive so I'm trying not to look too sexy. For the career fair I'm thinking of wearing just my nice shirt and a skirt with low heels. My reasoning being it's approachable and attractive without going overboard since the career fair hosts are mostly younger male recent grads. I want to be remembered but not intimidating. For my interviews I was thinking pants, suit jacket (power suit). My reasoning being it'll be older execs and HR people (mostly women) so less sexy with the pants but more powerful with the suit jacket. What do you think?!

But since it is a case study, we will be on group, we will be four i think. Project manager, Analyst, Documentation, and the programmer. I am asking what jobs i can get after graduating I.T. because what if i graduated I.T. and still not that good at coding, i am hoping that there will be a jobs that will require less programming.
