Do you have to be very sociable to be a customer service associate?
I'm applying to be a customer service associate at JCPenny and it's saying you have to be friendly, like people......I am friendly and I like people but it's also asking questions like "What are you like around strangers?" and the truth would be "I'm quiet"......I'm "shy" but do you think I could still do this job?

Yes you can do this job if you like people. Being shy is OK - when it comes to your job though if you think about it, you're the expert so if you think about your responsibility is to help customers by educating them about products/services that might be of interest to them then you'll be fine. Absolutely. I work at American Eagle and we are forced to be social. That is our job. It's not only informing the customer of products and telling them about the credit cards, etc., it's about having some sort of a personal relationship with the customer before they leave the store.
