Will a misdemeanor disqualify me from a job offer?
I was offered a position as a junior software developer, but I still have to go through a criminal background check. I have some misdemeanor charges from 5 years ago (Underage Intoxication, Vandalism, Possession of Marijuana [dropped]). Is this likely to disqualify me from the position? The person that offered the job is the branch operations manager, and was really excited to have me come on board, but I don't know if he has the authority to overlook my charges if they show up.

Yeah that will hold you back if you said you have a minor background. legally they cannot disqualify you but human nature is to descriminate... so i'm sure it wont pass his corporate. and a job like that will more than likely check your background in it's entirety... but cross your fingers you never know. 5 years is a... Since they were dropped and were non-violent and not theft I think you're OK. In my state you can get dropped charges "sealed" You might try that if they use your backgroud against you.
