How are job prospects for civil engineering?

Hey, I'm majoring in civil engineering, but my mom wants me to switch to chemical or mechanical because they have better job prospects. Basically, she was saying that it would be hard to get a job as a civil engineer and that my degree would be worthless. She also said that they don't make enough money to live well-off. Is this true? Will my civil engineering degree be worthless? Is it hard to find a job as a civil engineer? Thanks
