Should I just drop out of college?

Hi guys, I'm a junior engineering student in one of the most competitive universities in the United States. I've worked extremely hard for four semesters straight getting good grades. I wanted an internship this summer, and I found one for the company of my DREAMS. They're located in Ireland and they specialize in research on dye-sensitized solar cells. Their work sounds very exciting to me and I'm sure it'll give me some valuable research experience and look great on my resume and grad school apps. Not to mention how much fun Ireland is going to be! The only problem is my mom won't let me go. She has my passport so it looks like I'm not going anywhere. She thinks I can find another internship, but I know it's definitely too late. Finding an internship is not easy. I tried telling her this but her final answer is still no. This is everything I've worked for. Four semesters of studying, studying studying down the drain. It's my career down the drain. I live for research and now I can't...do you think I should just drop out?

Stay in college. If you drop out now, you'll regret it.

I would go for the internship in Ireland. You can get another passport. However, be sure you have been accepted by your dream company before you take any drastic steps. If it is that great they may go with someone else. Good luck!

Get another passport! At this point, your mom should not be making this decision for you. Imagine how many doors this opportunity could open for you. I would imagine that an intership like this is highly selective. I suggest you make the adult decision, do what is absolutely best for you and your career. At what... More
