Are jobs in medical transcription becoming obsolete?
I'm planning on becoming certified in medical transcription as a way to earn more money for college, but I don't want to pay for the certification classes if it will be too hard to find a job. Thanks.

I've been working in MT for 17 years and I want to do something else now because the money is not what it used to be, because of speech recognition (the text appears on the screen and you have to edit the mistakes in it). When compared to what it was like, say 5 years ago, yes, the jobs are dwindling to EMR, out-sourcing and voice recognition. So if you were thinking you could get certified quickly and then run right into a job for college, that probably will not happen, as experienced transcriptionists will have most remaining jobs...
