What's an alternative to homeschool support groups or co-ops?

I won't add a wall of text. Just that we've met some the members of local homeschooling groups and I don't feel the groups would be a fit for us. What alternatives for activities have you used and did you feel like they were enough? thanks for the good answers.

If you just want advice about homeschooling there are many, many homeschool groups online. Check out Yahoo! Groups and type in what you are looking for (for example, Charlotte Mason homeschool, secular homeschool, [enter your religion] homeschool, classical homeschool, etc.) and you should be able to find something... I have 8 kids, so we do our activities as a family, or occasionally with another friend family who also have lots of kids. We plan our activities so there is no pressure. If a family doesn't show up, the rest of the people will do the activity anyway... More
