What do you think of the hugging ban in England?

If a little baby kitten can receive a hug from it’s mother cat, then why can’t a human hug another human? Principal, Headmaster, Andy Croft of South Croydon Seconday School, Quest Academy is teaching his students the wrong values and morals. He claims that this “No (Physical) Contact” policy was put into place to prevent ‘poor behavior’ such as bullying, which could lead to ‘fighting’. He also says that it creates a disciplined environment which is necessary for ‘learning’ and ‘respect’. Mr. Croft is teaching everybody, from the student body, to the teachers, to the parents, to the governors of the school (made up of parents and teachers – It’s the British version of the P.T.A) that hugging, high-fiving and handshaking is a bad thing, and I have come to a conclusion - Friendship + Love + Happiness + Safety + ________________ = Hugs Go on, fill in the blank with any positive word. Now, here is why shaking hands with somebody is a good thing. You have a job interview and your potential manager comes up to you, introduces themself, and extends their hand. You shake their hand, and reply with your name. -A handshake, is one form of a salutation or greeting, and is a very professional way of presenting yourself, to anybody. - Business partners shake hands to seal a deal - Athletes shake hands at the end of a game as a way of sportsmanship, whether they win or lose. It shows acceptance. - Two leaders shake hands to show friendship, respect, peace Those, are some examples as to how shaking hands is a good thing. Next, let’s take a look at hugs. •Parents hug their children. If they are sad or scared, a hug from their parent is always there to comfort them. •Hugs are used by everybody, including animals. •Hugs can be seen as a source of protection. •People in a relationship hug. It’s affectionate. •Nobody is in DANGER from a hug. •Note: A bear hug does not come from an actual bear, so it is not dangerous. Finally, let’s take a look at ‘high-fives’. •Athletes high-five their teammates after a good play or a goal. As a way of congratulating their teammate. •People high-five as another form of a greeting. It’s a lot more unprofessional than a handshake, yet, still a common greeting among a group of peers. A high-five is a slapping of hands. However, nobody is harmed or in danger from one of these slaps. Andy Croft is taking the “free” out of “freedom” with his policy. Hugging, handshaking, and high-fiving, are nature, not just human. In every situation they are used in, positivity ensues. I have a solution that has more than one meaning. Wear a sign, that reads “FREE HUGS”.

To answer your "question", your claim that nobody is in danger from a hug is completely false. Bullies commonly bear-hug other children. I've treated more than on fracture that has resulted from this behavior, and the "I was only hugging him" excuse must be taken away. I've also referred more than one girl to... More
