salary advice: if a job position is asking only one year of experience, what is a reasonable salary?

I'd be an analyst in a non-profit working with law enforcement. One year of experience is preferred, which I don't have since I'm straight out of college and was not a criminal justice major. The position is in DC. The only thing I got going for me is that I interned there last summer (applying for a different department), but have not kept up my contacts. They want me to put salary requirements on my cover letter and I'm thinking 40-45,000...(want to put 40-50,000). I just dont want to be thrown away for asking too much. My other benefits would include retirement, health (medical, dental, and vision), flexible spending account, life, and disability. With all these benefits, will they make up for a low salary --say 40-45,000? I'd have to relocate to DC and pay for an apartment, car, food, etc.
